Welcome to the website of the Microelectronics Department
of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

The department trains bachelors, masters and doctors of philosophy (PhD) in the speciality 176 “Micro- and Nanosystem Engineering” (educational program “Micro- and Nanoelectronics”).

The modern world is impossible to imagine without electronics, which has covered all areas of human activity. Micro- and nanoelectronic technologies are the basis of all areas of modern electronics: computer technology, telecommunications, avionics, space and medical technology, energy. The educational process at the department is aimed at a deep understanding of the processes and phenomena that occur in any electronic system. Therefore, according to many years of experience, graduates of the Microelectronics Department easily adapt to all areas of activity related to electronics.

The department is a participant of European scientific and educational programs and has business relations with higher educational institutions of the USA, Western Europe, China, South Korea, etc.

On the basis of the department the research institute of Electronics and Microsystem Technology is created, in which lecturers and students carry out scientific researches in different directions.

On January 10, 2026, the Department of Microelectronics hosted a combined lecture and hands-on workshop at the NanoFab complex entitled “Organic Materials for the Electronics of the Future: From Synthesis to Application” as part of the KPISchool Engineering Weeks. During the event, participants were introduced to organic materials used in flexible, energy-autonomous, and biodegradable electronics, as well as to sensors based on these materials developed by the department’s undergraduate and postgraduate students (presentation and demonstration of prototypes).

In addition, school students took part in a hands-on workshop on operating an atomic force microscope in the NanoFab cleanroom, where they were able to see what an organic material looks like at million-fold magnification and gain practical skills in working with this microscope.
